Green Deal Home Improvement Fund

As you know, energy consumption, price and availability is currently at the forefront people’s minds and this already high profile is likely to increase further as the General Election draws nearer. Landlords, in particular, need to be aware that whichever party is in power after May, it wll be expecting EPC ratings for rental properties to rise considerably.

The current Government is running, albeit promoted by very discreet advertising, The Green Deal Home Improvement Scheme. This scheme manages a fund earmarked for homeowners and landlords who want to raise the energy efficiency of their properties. It provides finance for double glazing, wall insulation and biomass boilers to name just three energy-conservation options available under the scheme.

To qualify for funding, you need to arrange for a government-certified Green Provider to come to your property and compile a Green Assessment report. Although not free, it wll give you an up-to-date EPC, and the report is valid for 10 years.

Once you have your Green report, you will need to source quotes for your energy-conservation work and get it carried out by Green Technicians - we have added a link below to find local providers. These technicians will then fill in a voucher that makes you eligible for the scheme.

Last year £220 million was distributed by the scheme to property owners. The scheme has re-opened this year and is now accepting vouchers. We’ve added links below to the official website and a user-friendly guide to getting the most from what’s on offer.
